The Reference Statistics Reporting System (RSRS) is a web application for recording statistics on reference desk usage. RSRS streamlines reference desks’ daily operations for the entire Cornell University Library system, which ranks among the 15 largest U.S. academic libraries.
During a graduate-level course on software engineering and project management, a team and I created this system for Cornell’s largest library branch. After the course ended, I single-handedly expanded the system to serve not just one library branch, but the entire Cornell Library network, which has over 20 separate branches.
My Role: During the first phase of development, I functioned as a project manager. Nicknamed as the team’s “technical guru”, I also implemented at least half of the system’s core functionality, and the XHTML structure of most portions of its user interface. As the sole developer during the second phase, I collaborated with library staff to schedule milestones and conduct usability testing.
